PRESSING

It comes from the Latin verb “presso”, but is also the name given to the squeezing processes used to obtain the essences in citrus peels such as oranges, lemons, bergamot, tangerines, which are also used as expressions. Where the essential oil is obtained, there are two hard layers. The tool between which these plants are placed exerts pressure on the plants through the convex and concave parts, allowing the sap of the plant to come out

Perfumes, which did not require to be made with heavy equipment in Ancient times, were also obtained by pressing. Archaeological studies conducted in Delos and the Campanian town of Paestum show that there were perfumers in this region based on the presence of oil presses.

It was an important event for the people of Antiquity to send them fragrances to ensure communication with the gods. The society that creates raw materials with the desire to create a sacred perfume by adding various gums and resins to them shows us how important these materials are for perfume.
