LAVENDER

Lavender oil, which has several special types, is used to make perfumes. In order to distinguish the pungent odor on the stems and flowers of the plant, the steam decomposition method was used, as a result of which it was aimed to obtain oil from the plant. Although there are five different types of lavender according to the places and characteristics where it grows, Dioscorides specifically mentions French Lavender. Dioscorides mentioned that this plant grows on the island called Stoichades, in Gallia, opposite Marseille, its leaves are similar to thyme, but longer than thyme, as a plant with seeds that taste sharp and slightly bitter. Theophrastus, a natural historian, also mentioned lavender in his work, while Pliny also mentioned lavender when talking about wines obtained from certain plants.
