Its leaves are saber-shaped and usually have fins. Irises, also known by names such as ”Orrice“ ”Arrice" "Florentine Orris", are one of the important raw materials used in perfume making. The plant has oil, which is obtained by distillation from its steam. In addition, its smell is similar to violet. It has a feature that provides a sharper odor to the perfume mixtures to which it is added compared to other fragrances in which it has a strong effect in the mixtures in which it is used because its odor has a strengthening property. Müller and Lamparsky listed the raw materials used to make perfume, and these authors mentioned that they used them to make the fragrance more lasting in the work. The irises plant, which is often mentioned in ancient sources, was included in the list of aromatic plants prepared by the famous natural historian Theophrastos.
