BALANOS

The plant most used in perfume making in ancient times; It is bolanos. It is a small spiny evergreen tree or shrub covered with gray-green, oval leaves. It is a tree belonging to the Balanitaceae or Zygophyllaceae family. Today, this tree, which is most used in perfumery by both Egyptians and Syrians, is abundant in the Nile valley. We first read from Theophrastos that the Egyptians used the bark of this tree in perfume making.
