The perfume, which Dioscorides called 'Metopion', was obtained from the smell called metopion in Egypt. However, this perfume contains bitter almonds, oil of very unripe olives, cardamom, thistle, honey, wine, myrrh, the fruit of Mecca balm, the resin of parsnips and pine resin. It was stated by Dioscorides in his work that the scent of cardamom and myrrh was dominant in the perfume made under the intense pressure of fragrance and oil.
