The natural historian Theophrastos stated that the roots of the perfume would be used to obtain this perfume. Dioscorides also stated that the roots will be used during the making of the perfume and this should be done by burning. While the iris plant is the main ingredient of the perfume, we read from Theophrastos that the roots of mullein can be added to this mixture, and if it is done in this way, the usage time of the perfume may be extended. In another passage of the same work, Theophrastos stated that perfume mixtures containing iris plant are better and fresher than other perfumes.
